Choosing the best poker site for your needs is already a chore and compatibility issues only add to the difficulty. Few things are more frustrating than finding what appears to be the perfect poker site only to realize it doesn’t support your OS. It’s even more frustrating when you read online that Poker Site X works with Mac, Linux or whatever and then you waste 10 minutes trying to figure out why you can’t find the right download link before you realize the information was flat out wrong.
My purpose here is to give you accurate and up-to-date information on which poker sites work with which operating systems and mobile devices. Your days of wandering around looking for the right software have finally come to a close. Here’s where you can play online from any operating system.

We’ll get into specifics later, but above is a list of sites that are compatible with all major OS’s, tablets and smartphones. I can’t promise every site will work with every electronic product ever invented, but these sites should work for 99% of the people reading these words. These are the most compatible poker sites of them all.
Getting Started with Any OS
Most multi-OS compatible poker sites have a cool way to deliver the right software to the right people. If you visit the website of any poker room and click on the “download” link, you should be given the correct version by default. Windows users are given the .exe installer, Mac users are given the .dmg installer and so on.
That’s how it works for sites with actual downloadable clients for multiple OS. Some sites also offer compatible poker through the use of no-download instant play software. Instant play sites don’t care which OS you’re on because all they need is any modern web browser. All games are played through your browser, with each new table opened in a new window.
Instant Play vs. Full Download Software
If you ever have the option between an actual download and instant play, it’s best to go with the full download client. Not only is the performance better, but the software client is designed form the ground up with your specific OS in mind. Instant play sites come with fewer features and performance limitations because they have to function on a whole variety of systems.
That’s not to say instant play poker is terrible. The technology has actually improved quite a bit since the early days of online poker. You might not get access to every feature, but you’ll still have everything you need to manage your account, browse the games lobby and join the tables.
Will I be limited to playing only with people who have the same OS?
No. No matter how many different software clients a poker site may offer, they all connect to the same player pool. You don’t even notice it, but every time you join a table, there’s a good chance at least one of the other players is using a completely different OS than what you have.
OS Specific Listings
Each operating system is catered to by a different group of poker sites. The links below go to pages in which I discuss which sites are the best for each OS and talk about issues specific to your exact setup. The purpose of each page is the same: give you all the information you need to choose the best poker site for your OS.
Best Windows Poker Sites: Every poker site on the planet works with Windows. After all, this is the operating system of choice for the vast majority of computer owners. Visit any poker site, click the download button and you’ll get the right software. All I have to add to the conversation is my opinion on the best poker sites for Windows users.
Best Mac Poker Sites: OSX comes in at a distance second place to Windows but it gains ground every year. More of us are using Mac now than ever before. Some poker sites have done an excellent job at keeping up with the times. Take a look at this page if you’ve had trouble finding the right Mac poker site.
Best Linux Poker Sites: In online, Linux and its various distributions are the forgotten operating systems. There are no poker sites that have software designed just for Linux, Ubuntu or any other offshoot. That doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. All you need to do is visit one of the many instant play poker sites that require no download.
